Disease Etiology
Parkinson's Disease (PD) is "a progressive neurodegenerative condition resulting from the death of the dopamine containing cells of the substantia nigra" (1). Parkinsonism refers to symptoms that are similar to PD (e.g. tremor, bradykinesia, rigidity), but is caused by other conditions including multiple system atrophy (MSA), progressive supranulcear palsy (PSP), Alzheimer disease (AD)-type pathology, and cerebrovascular disease (2).
