Disease Etiology
Osteoarthritis (OA) (also called degenerative arthritis, degenerative joint disease, osteoarthrosis, or hypertrophic osteoarthritis) is a chronic disorder occurring as a result of damage to the cartilage and surrounding tissues (1). It is characterized by joint pain and stiffness, and decreased function. Any synovial joint can be affected, but knees, hips and small hand joints are the most common sites (2).
