[A] The following conclusions are supported by good evidence:
Clinical trials have demonstrated that oral folic acid supplementation (1 mg/day) given to individuals with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who are taking methotrexate (MTX), can reduce adverse effects of MTX therapy, notably liver toxicity. Folic acid supplements (5 mg/week) taken one day after MTX administration have been recommended.
