Description
Interstitial cystitis (IC) is a condition that results in recurring discomfort or pain in the bladder and the surrounding pelvic region. The actual cause of IC is not known and symptoms can vary. Treatments tend to focus on managing the symptoms of IC. The mechanism by which foods or fluids may exacerbate IC symptoms is not known. Despite a lack of studies showing that adherence to an IC diet decreases symptoms, most individuals with IC do modify their diet.
