Disease Etiology
Constipation is "the subjective complaint of passage of abnormally delayed or infrequent passage of dry, hardened faeces often accompanied by straining and/or pain” (1).
 
There are two types of constipation in children, acute or self-limiting and chronic (lasting longer than eight weeks) (1). Chronic constipation can be organic or functional.
