Importance of Topic to Practice
Self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) has been widely incorporated as a part of diabetes self management for individuals with type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes. Dietitians can use the results of SMBG, in collaboration with the diabetes health care team and individuals affected by diabetes, to guide treatment decisions, understand individual response to foods and lifestyle factors and to confirm hyper- and hypoglycemia.
