Goals for an individual with diabetes who is self-monitoring blood glucose should be determined in conjunction with the client, and should be specific to the individual. Goals should be time-sensitive, easily measured, and achievable by the nutrition intervention. Both short-term and long-term goals may be set. Examples of short- and long-term goals include:    
  • to increase frequency of SMBG to recommended frequency by next scheduled appointment 
  • using SMBG, achieve and maintain
