Exercise and Fluid Replacement Among Children Background 

 

As with adults, how much fluid the exercising child needs is highly variable (1-7). Sweating rates are affected by the type, duration and intensity of the exercise, the environmental conditions where the exercise takes place (air temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation load, wind currents) and the type of clothing or equipment worn. Individuals (children and adults) who are more highly trained and acclimatized to the heat generally have higher sweat rates.
