The selection of low glycemic index (GI) foods has been recommended for individuals with type 1 and type 2 diabetes as a strategy to help optimize glycemic control and potentially support the treatment of co-morbid conditions. Selecting low GI foods is also recommended to reduce the risk of progressing to type 2 diabetes in individuals at high risk.
