Treatment of diverticulitis depends on the severity of the symptoms. Reports indicate that for acute diverticulitis, conservative medical treatment (consisting of bowel rest, intravenous fluids and antibiotics or for less severe cases, a high fluid, low fibre diet plus antibiotics) is successful in 70-100% of individuals.
