The main goal of clinical management of MetS is to reduce the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. The choice and intensity of treatments to reduce risk factors depend on the absolute risk of individuals. Therapeutic lifestyle change consisting of dietary modification, weight loss, physical activity and the discontinuation of smoking is the first line of treatment for MetS.
