Disease Etiology
Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is not a disease; it is a syndrome. MetS is a cluster of interrelated risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes. These risk factors include abdominal obesity, elevated triglycerides, reduced high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), dysglycemia and hypertension (1).
