Metabolic syndrome (MetS) describes a cluster of interrelated risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes. These risk factors include abdominal obesity, elevated triglycerides, reduced high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), dysglycemia and hypertension.
