Acute gastroenteritis is a major cause of morbidity and hospitalization in Canadian children. Prolonged diarrhea and malnutrition are a primary cause of morbidity and mortality in Canadian native populations (1). A substantial reduction in world-wide mortality from acute gastroenteritis has occurred due to treatment of acute diarrhea with oral rehydration therapy (ORT)(2). ORT is less invasive, less costly, and can be administered as rapidly as IVT. It addition, it can be
