Nutrition Monitoring and Evaluation

Disclaimer

In the first two weeks of life, infants experience a normal weight decline and subsequent weight recovery (1). After the infant has regained to birthweight, steady weight gain is a good indicator of the adequacy of intake. Expected weight gain in the first three months is ~0.6-1.4 kg/month; from three to six months is ~0.3-0.8 kg/month (2). See WHO Child Growth Standards - Weight Velocity.
