Goals

Goals for an individual with gout should be determined in conjunction with the client, and should be specific to the individual. Goals should be time-sensitive, easily measured, and achievable by the nutrition intervention. Both short-term and long-term goals may be set. Examples of short- and long-term goals include:
  • decrease alcohol consumption from four standard drinks each day to two standard drinks per day by the next scheduled nutrition visit
  • modify overall diet to gradually achieve weight
