Goals for an individual with heart failure should be determined in conjunction with the client, and should be specific to the individual. Goals that are set should be time-sensitive, easily measured, and achievable by the nutrition intervention. Both short-term and long-term goals may be set. Examples of short- and long-term goals include:
  • to decrease the intake of alcohol to ≤2 standard drinks/day for men, and to ≤1 standard drink/day for women by the next scheduled nutrition visit.
