As colic is distressing for parents, parents should be provided with consistent follow up and support from their primary health care professional. When nutrition interventions such as modifying the maternal diet in a mother breastfeeding an infant with colic, or changing the formula in a formula-fed infant with colic are undertaken, the dietitian can monitor the effectiveness of these changes. Assessment of the adequacy of the maternal diet and growth of the infant may also be monitored.
